The willingness to help those in need is being learned early
The willingness to help those in need is a quality that students of Munich’s English-speaking Montessori Preschool are learning early. On March 27, 2000, the children will don designer winter wear and hit the catwalk to raise money for their partner grade school in the Senegal town of N’Dem. Proceeds from the kids’ fashion show — collected via entrance fees and a raffle — will benefit the African school’s kindergarten. Munich celebrities and best-selling author Andrea Brown will host the presentation, which will display the clothing lines of Oshkosh B’gosh, Kenzo jungle, Monalisa, Fire and Ice, Trussardi, Eddie Pen, Joop! Kids, Marc O’ Polo, Les Robes and Pampolina. The English Montessori Preschool of Munich has supported the N’Dem school since 1986, which has, since the Bavarian institution’s involvement, grown in size from 20 to 200 preschoolers. As N’Dem is situated far from other, larger Senegal communities, Montessori school officials saw the need for the town to have its own school. In 1992, the African government officially recognized the N’Dem school, where children are offered a full curriculum, including dance, theater and an exchange program to encourage cross-cultural experiences. The fashion show will take place at the Forum Hotel on Hochstrasse 3 at 18:30. For more information, call Tonya Costello at (089) 48 95 28 33. <<< lv
