Crowded House

Music review of Crowded House's Afterglow

Crowded House*** Afterglow (EMI)

This popular 1980s, Sydney-based band broke up in 1996. But Crowded House mastermind Neil Finn felt it fitting to remaster a handful of B-sides, demos, outtakes and other unreleased material for a 2000 House-hungry audience — we are glad he did. The previously unheard work is proof that Crowded House was indeed one of the most important bands of the last two decades. Though such pop pearls as “Don’t Dream It’s Over” and “Always Take the Weather” do not appear on the CD, the 14-song Afterglow is wonderfully melancholy and a fine tribute to the beloved Australian trio.
