Music review of Chumbawamba's WYSIWYG
Chumbawamba*** WYSIWYG (Electrola)Though Chumbawamba, the anarchy-loving political pop band from the northern England town of Leeds, became overnight stars in 1997 with their hit “Tubthumping,” they haven’t lost their activist edge. WYSIWYG — the acronym of “What You See Is What You Get” — is a melding of heavy opinion and whistle-evoking, toe-tappingly happy tunes. Subjects once again dealt with here include unions, strikes, political incorrectness, jabs at the left as well as the right. It’s nice to have the band watching out for us, and they prove, with WYSIWYG, that pop and politics do mix.
