Munich's 15th annual Internationales Dokumentarfilm Festival
Cities around the globe are host to prize-bestowing documentary film contests, and Munich is no exception. From May 5 to 14, Bavaria’s capital will be home to the 15th annual Internationales Dokumentarfilm Festival. Offerings will include Canadian Peter Wintonick’s Cinéma Vérité, interviews with directors and clips from some of the greatest nonfiction films of all time, to be shown May 5 at the Filmmuseum and May 8 at Maxim. The daily life of Irish brothers Ernie and Stewart Morrow is chronicled in Lionel Mills’ Us Boys. The septuagenarian bachelors live on a farm in Northern Ireland, where they voluntarily do without such modern conveniences as electricity. The 51-minute film will be shown on May 5 at the Filmmuseum and on May 11 at Maxim. New England natives and fans will delight in viewing Frederick Wiseman’s entry. Belfast, Maine traces the lives of such “Downeast” characters as lobster fishermen, potato growers and local town councilmen. The seaside town will be featured on May 10 at the Filmmuseum and May 13 at Maxim. The Bayerische Rundfunk (Bavarian Broadcasting) will hand over the competition’s DM 20,000 first prize.
