“Gooood Ev-en-ning” — with these words and a whimsical oboe theme song, Alfred Hitchcock opened his weekly mystery television show in the 1960s. The pudgy Englishman’s films still frighten today — who can forget stories of killer birds, low-flying aircraft and diabolical, edible murder weapons? Until July 23, Munich’s Stadtmuseum will host the exhibition Obsessions – The Nightmare Factory of Alfred Hitchcock to honor the talented man with the criminal mind. The multimedia event includes film footage, behind-the-scenes clips and sound effects, as well as view props used in Hitchcock’s movies. Special effects make the exhibition a participatory event. Mirrors, a favorite of the horror-film director, allow museum-goers the chance to come face to face with the mummified Mrs. Bates from Psycho. Upon entering a re-creation of the famous shower stall from the same film, visitors are confronted with bloody images and a recording of Janet Leigh’s shrieks of terror. Don’t let cost scare you — the entrance fee for this truly entertaining show is a mere DM 8 for adults and DM 4 for children, students and seniors.
