Lange Nacht der Museen
Strolling through museums at one o’ clock in the morning, gallery hopping instead of club hopping, listening to an impromptu concert among artworks or spontaneously joining a midnight art lecture — last fall these activities attracted an overwhelming 60,000 art buffs and night owls to Munich’s first Lange Nacht der Museen.1) Start early to avoid the crowds.
2) Consider bypassing the most popular attractions, such as the Haus der Kunst, in favor of more unusual places that you might have never visited, like the Feuerwehrmuseum or the Bayerischer Kunstbunker Tumulka, housed in a World War II air-raid shelter.
3) Study the program in advance and create your personal art tour.
4) Don’t try to see more than half a dozen places.
5) Be prepared to change plans if the lines in front of one museum get too long.
