New Consul General in Munich

Since September 1, Robert W. Boehme has taken up the post of U.S. Consul General in Munich. Born in West Paterson, New Jersey, he studied political science at the University of Pennsylvania until 1977.
Thereafter, he earned his doctorate degree in International Affairs from the School of Advanced International Studies at John Hopkins University. Straight from the university, Boehme joined the Foreign Service in 1980. Concentrating on economic affairs, his career has led him to countries as wide ranging as Bangladesh, Pakistan, Finland and the Ukraine. Boehme’s most recent assignment in the State Department, from 1998 to 2000, was as Chief of the Developed Country Trade Division in the Bureau of Economic Affairs.
There he was responsible for trade policy issues concerning, for example, the European Union, Central Europe, the former Soviet Union and Japan. Boehme is the 47th U.S. Consul General to reside in Munich since 1832. His consular district is the State of Bavaria.
