Council of American States in Europe (CASE)
Globalization is not a one-way street. McDonald’s hamburgers and New York’s bagels may make it to the Old World, but plenty of Europe’s exports make it to the New. La Butte, Montana features a gourmet restaurant with a European menu and the world’s best red wines. In New York City,
McDonald’s and Burger King restaurants stand empty while espresso bars and Turkish kebab stands are packed. You can buy American popcorn in Munich and Austrian cooking oil in Cordell, Georgia. These feats of commerce happen not by chance, but by the efforts of organizations like the Council of American States in Europe (CASE). The state of West Virginia, a CASE member with an office at the
Bayerische-Amerikanisches Zentrum in Munich, recently organized “Meet USA: Bavarian-USA Business Day” held at the
Industrie-und Handelskammer für München und Oberbayern (Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Munich and Upper Bavaria) on September 15. Topics included venture capital and financial resources, market and distribution channels and company acquisitions in the United States. There was little hype and ample time for discussion and networking. Bavarian companies that did not send representatives to the meeting but are considering commercial or industrial investment in America can find more information at
