The Maine Event

Lobster Launch in Munich

Governor Angus S. King, Jr., and the State of Maine Trade Mission roared into Munich at the end of last year. Though the Governor left his Harley at home, the delegation made enough noise to be noticed. The group hosted a lively lobster dinner — replete with hilarious downeast humor — attended by approximately 150 fortunate guests. The State of Maine is known for its Bush-clan summer residence in Kennebunkport, its forestry, potatoes, semiconductors and biotechnology, but it is most famous for the worldwide sale of its trademark red crustacean — a record 30,000 tons last year. According to Janine Bisaillon-Cary, Senior Trade Advisor, there will be a Lobster Launch in Munich this spring. If you have lost your taste for BSE beef, or salmonella chicken, you will be delighted to know that Maine intends to ensure that lobsters in the Bavarian capital will soon be offered at a cost we can all afford. If you do not savor the idea of boiling our crimson friends alive, relax. Lobsters aren’t much more sensitive to pain than turnips. That may be somewhat of an exaggeration, but scientists believe that the development of the lobster’s nervous system is about as advanced as that of other Arthropods — flies and grasshoppers. Munich Found online (www.munichfound.com) will keep you posted on the date of the Lobster Launch as well as where, and at what price, you can purchase these delectable creatures.
