Renowned light designer Ingo Maurer
The cover of MUNICH FOUND’s April issue paid subliminal tribute to one of Munich’s most respected artists. The four red and yellow light globes that illuminate our cover model and ennoble the atmosphere of the U-Bahn station Westfriedhof were created by internationally renowned light designer Ingo Maurer. The artist’s studio, located in Schwabing, is the birthplace of countless designs and lighting fixtures that now brighten such illustrious sites as the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Tel Aviv opera house and a golf club in Nagasaki. Maurer describes himself as a lover of light, a passion that is apparent in all his installations and one that has earned him numerous international design awards. The artist’s latest trophy is the Primavera Design Award, which he received in Barcelona last month. Not content to rest on his laurels, Maurer is now working on his next project: a 30-meter-high sculpture resembling a concave blimp on which sun rays are refracted. The work is designed to uplift the spirits of Toronto airport visitors.
