Irish pub Günther Murphy’s celebrates its 10th anniversary
Victor and Rachel Graham have spent a lot of time in the basement since 1991. Whether washing glasses, hanging more Anglo-kitsch on their tasteful brick walls or ordering more tiny packets of HP sauce, the proprietors of Munich favorite Günther Murphy’s Irish pub say they love what they do in their popular cellar. After opening its doors nearly a decade ago, the bar’s success was almost immediate. “Our business took off like a runaway train and we were on it whether we liked it or not,” says Rachel Graham. Luckily, for local residents and tourists alike, the Grahams enjoy riding the retail rails. Over the past decade, the couple’s underground tavern has won numerous awards for everything from “Best Hygiene” to “Best Pint of Guinness” to “Best Pub.” “We are very proud of these achievements,” explains Rachel, “but Günther Murphy’s has always been about the people and we have been blessed over the years with fantastic staff and great customers.” The Grahams will thank their loyal clientele and new fans by throwing a 10th anniversary bash, from Thursday, June 14, to Sunday, June 17. The subterranean celebration will feature beer and food sold at 1991 prices. <<< lv
