July 2001
Commercial Free
During July and August, the city of Munich will be plastered with poetry. Photos of long-legged models, huge cellular phones and glistening cars all shouting, “Buy me! Buy me now!” will be replaced by the literary creations of German lyricists. Organizers at the literature museums of Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart have invited twenty poets, including Wolf Wondratschek, SAID and Durs Grünbein, to submit verses to be featured on billboards throughout the Isar city. A mixture of comic, melancholic and serious poems, the project is meant to remove the commercial rubbish from urban minds, replacing it with literary enlightenment. <<< KA
