Saturday, Sept. 22, 11 am:
Opening parade. Festive horse-drawncarriages transport traditional-costume-donning restaurateurs and their families, beer tent bands and beer kegs to the fairgrounds. Begins on Sonnenstrasse. Duration: 45 minutes.
12 pm: Official opening, when the first keg is tapped by the mayor, in the Schottenhamelzelt.
7 pm: Folklore International. Traditional music and dance performances by 600 artists from around the globe. In the auditorium of the ICM (Munich Trade Fair Center). Duration: 3 hours.
Sunday, Sept. 23, 10 am: Parade of traditional costume and riflemen. A group of more than 7,000 international participants will include marksmen and marching bands. Horses and livestock, floats and carriages will also join in the 7-kilometer procession. Parade route: Siegestor, Odeonsplatz, Briennerstrasse, Maximiliansplatz, Lenbachplatz, Stachus, Sonnenstrasse, Schwanthalerstrasse, Theresienwiese. Duration: 2 hours.
Tuesday, Sept. 25, noon–6 pm: First family day at Oktoberfest. Children (to 14, in some cases to 16, years of age) pay reduced prices for rides and food.
Sunday, Sept. 29, 11 am: Open-air concert at the steps of the Bavaria statue performed by Oktoberfest beer tent bands (400 musicians). Raindate: Sunday, Oct. 7.
Tuesday Oct. 2, noon–6 pm:
Second family day.
