Out Cold
Come one, come all to the “big top!” No, not to the circus, but to the glittering multicultural event combining art, theater, music and entertainment known as Tollwood. This popular biannual festival was launched just ten years ago as a one-tent cabaret affair and has become one of the biggest of its kind in Europe, attracting over one million people each year. Scheduled to be held this winter at the Theresienwiese, the festival will be packed with arts and handicrafts, a wonderful Christmas market, culinary delights from around the globe, costumes and performances, lights and action. This year’s festival theme is a unified Europe and “cultural osmosis,” which can forge connections between the known and the unknown—here you can discover African dancing, Australian theater, Indian jazz, Greek food and the history of the Far East, among other cultural traditions. The Tollwood Winter Festival will be held from November 29 to December 31. For a full schedule of events, call (089) 38 38 50 0 or visit
www.tollwood.de. This is arguably one of the most successful festivals combining diverse art forms to create something fun for everyone—and is a must for Munich residents and visitors alike.
