December 2001
Just the Ticket
On five nights in December (1 and 5–8), the International Outcast Theatre Group, which is known for its unconventional repertoire, will present the international hit comedy
Così. In this play Lewis, a first-time theatre director, is hired to stage Mozart’s opera
Così fan Tutte. No problem—if the players weren’t inmates at an insane asylum, including a pyromaniac and a lithium-addicted pianist who hates Mozart. To top the absurdity the performance venue is a fire-gutted building with a leaking roof and faulty wiring. This wickedly funny play, written by Australian playwright Louis Nowra, was made into a film by Miramax in 1996. Nowra, who looks back on a career of writing plays, television scripts, libretti, screen plays and fiction, has always been interested in exploring fascinating and frightening aspects of the human mind.
Così is certainly a fine example of Nowra’s interest. The play will be held in the Pasinger Fabrik, on August-Exter-Strasse 1 (S Pasing), starting at 8 pm each night.
