Tierrettung
Owning a cat or dog in Munich, or any city for that matter, can prove nerve wracking: racing traffic, hazardous garbage-littered sidewalks and the occasional unleashed pitbull can do serious harm to your beloved pet. All pets—ranging from gerbils to German Shepherds—can suffer sudden, violent illness. By becoming a member of Munich’s animal rescue organization, Tierrettung München, pet parents can relax. Equipped with two ambulances and a team of skilled veterinarians, the medical squad provides emergency care to pets, strays and wild animals indigenous to the area 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Annual membership fees—€ 30 plus an additional € 1.60 per pet—will insure your pet with the Tierkrankenkasse (animal medical insurance system), which will cover all doctors’ fees should you need to call Tierrettung München (01805/84 37 73). Non-members may still call the friendly vet team in emergencies, though they will be charged per kilometer and standard vet fees.
