Cheerful Scottish bagpipe tunes and Irish drum numbers will herald Munich’s seventh annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 17. Starting at 3 pm at Münchner Freiheit, the parade, led by regal Irish wolfhounds, will proceed to Odeonsplatz. There, marchers can enjoy Irish and international dance, music and theater performances and much more. The shamrock, Ireland’s national emblem, will also be honored at the event. When the party is over at Odeonsplatz, why not visit some Irish pubs around town, such as Kilian’s (Frauenplatz 11) and Shamrock (Trautenwolfstrasse 6), to prolong the partying? You can also begin the festivities early by heading out the night before, at 7 pm, to experience the “Night of the Celts,” with Irish and Scottish music and dance, at the Augustiner-Keller on Arnulfstrasse 52. Don’t forget to wear green! For more information on St. Patrick’s Day-related events, visit www.stpatricksday.de or call (089) 679 24 81.
