Venture Some
Culture vultures who hate to leave the city will have a good reason to venture out into Munich’s green and pleasant countryside this summer. Five museums in the city’s hinterland have come together to offer exhibitions combining local themes with culture, history and geography. See how the other half lived at the Schlossmuseum Ismaning, where the historic paraphernalia of hunting, shooting and fishing are on display, or rediscover the tourist delights of yesteryear at the Stadtmuseum Fürstenfeldbruck—this town was once a favorite holiday haunt of the well-heeled. In Dachau the Bezirksmuseum uses maps and vintage photography to explain
the historical relevance of the town’s streets, while in Starnberg’s Heimatmuseum visitors can enjoy the painterly view of this popular resort. The Bauernhof museum Jexhof at Schöngeising even has an exhibition on grisly deaths from the Baroque period to the present day. One ticket (€ 12) covers all five locations.
