Bush Bash
Crow-eaters, sandgroppers, banana-benders, bogons, Kiwis and skegheads will all be well represented at this year’s 2002 Down Under Ball. The annual celebration of all things Antipodean has become an important fixture for Munich’s small Down Under community and their friends. This year the ball features music by three bands, including Made in Australia, Termites at Work and IndieShade, as well as Australian wine and beer. The event will also include Australian bush dancing led by the Waltzing Matilda Dancers, as well as “a heap of other things, but we haven’t got around to working out what they are yet,” says Mick Dixon, one of the organizers. “Then again, three bands for € 12! You’re not going to find better value than that anywhere in Munich, so what do
you want?” According to Dixon, the event grew out of an annual party
he used to host in his backyard. The party became so popular that the Australians and New Zealanders have now had to hire a hall to fit in the crowd. “Everyone is welcome and I reckon you’ll have a great night—especially if you’ve never seen bush dancing. If you survive, you’ll love it,” commented Dixon. The 2002 Down Under Ball will be held at the
St. Ruperts Kindertagesheim at Kazmairstr. 66, near Heimeranplatz,
on Friday, June 7. Doors open at 7:30 pm and bands start at 8 pm. Admission costs € 12 and tickets can be purchased at Australia Shopping World, Dachauerstr 109. Inquiries (089) 542 83 91.
