Changes in the Schoenes Wochenende ticket
Schönes Day With little notice, Deutsche Bahn altered one of its most popular rail deals: the Schönes Wochenende ticket. This special pass, which prior to April 1, 1999 covered a total of five passengers, only two of which could be over the age of 18, allowed unlimited travel on all regional trains (SE, RB, RE and S-Bahns) from Saturday morning until early the following Monday, all for the unbeatable price of DM 35. The new rules now permit a maximum of five passengers, regardless of their age, to travel. And the ticket is an even better deal for large families. Parents can travel with an unlimited number of their own children (up to 17 years old). Not only is the new ticket valid on all regional trains, but now most major cities include their public transportation systems in the package as well (Munich’s MVV included). Does the new deal sound too good to be true? It is. The April changes also cut the time frame during which the ticket is valid. Now passengers can travel either on Saturday or Sunday, but not the entire weekend.
