The German-English Association, one of the most active of Munich’s international groups, will host a variety of events collectively known as “Summer of Madness” to mark its 20th anniversary. The group, launched two decades ago “to provide a meeting place for lively young people of
all ages,” now boasts more than 700 subscribers to its email events list and offers more than 90 activities a month. Alpine hikes, country walks and cycling to wine evenings, concert visits and cinema outings are but a few of the highlights of the German-English Association’s program. Despite its name, the group is open to all nationalities and runs events in French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and German as well as English. The club is run entirely by volunteers and there are no membership fees. The birthday celebrations begin with a midsummer dance for up to 300 revelers at Augustiner Keller’s (Landsbergerstr.) “Grosser Festsaal” and terrace on the evening of Friday, June 21. Over the following three months, many traditional GEA events from the past 20 years will be taken out, given a wash and brush up and offered once again for old and new members. These include a sports day, a visit to the “Little Oktoberfest,” a trip to the Andechs Brewery and, the grand finale, a group outing to the real Oktoberfest. The GEA meets every Friday from 9 pm at the Rechthaler Hof, Arnulfstr 10. For more information, visit
