Present Simple

Christmas comes but once a year—and a good thing, too, many of you will probably be thinking, as you begin the frantic search for original and tasteful gifts to send to the folks back home. But it doesn’t have to be that way. How about spending a relaxing day sauntering around one of Munich’s historical sights before doing some Christmas shopping at the museum shop? Sound good? In the last year many of Munich’s museums, castles and historic monuments have expanded their on-site shops to include Bavarian-theme presents that are a welcome change from the cuckoo clocks and teddy bears in lederhosen that are sold at tourist shops around the city. Exquisite silk scarves printed with pictures of furniture from the Residenz, or with swans from Neuschwanstein, storybooks for children on the life of King Ludwig and porcelain copied from old designs—these are just a few of the delights in store for visitors to the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum, Schloss Nymphenburg or any of the other local historic sights open to the public.
