November 2002
Modern Movement
“There's no thinking involved in my choreography. I don't work through images or ideas—I work through the body,” says the legendary dancer Merce Cunningham. To discover what this means in practice dance enthusiasts can see the Merce Cunningham Dance Company perform as part of Dance 2002, the eighth international festival of contemporary dance in Munich. Events will be held through November 10 at various locations around the city and include 18 dance companies from around the world: Edouard Lock and the La La La Human Steps, the Daniel Léveillé Company and kondition pluriel, to name just a few. The theme this year is “Traces on Things,” an idea taken from the manifesto of Russian avant-garde artists Antoine Pevsner and Naum Gabo.
