Eastern Promise

Christmas may not be a traditional Japanese celebration, yet the Japanese have declared it to be one of their favorite Western holidays. Anyone who has been to Tokyo in the weeks before Christmas will confirm this: the city is full of Santa Clauses, there are Christmas trees at every corner and people busy buying presents. The Kunstsalon Ohm, a gallery specialized in Japanese art and lifestyle, brings this conglomeration of Eastern and Western culture to Munich in the form of a Japanese Christmas Market. It combines the modern and the traditional, pop culture with Zen and Hello-Kitty with traditional New Year’s decorations and craftwork. Those who want can have their favorite character painted by a Japanese calligrapher or light an incense stick for the gods or just simply relax while enjoying Japanese Christmas cookies, hot sake and tea. The market is held on December 1 and 2, 7 and 8, 14 and 15 and 21 and 22, from 11 am to 7 pm at the Kunstsalon Ohm, Ohmstrasse 3 (U3/U6 Giselastrasse).
