Ballroom Hits
You may not have noticed, but it is definitely Fasching (the German carnival) here in Munich and there is nowhere better to celebrate than at the Deutsches Theater with its some 20 balls—the last of which are held in March. For more than 100 years festive, glamorous balls have been a highlight of Munich’s carnival scene. During the carnival season the theater is converted into a unique ballroom with fantastic decorations designed by an Oscar-winning film architect. The themes of the balls range from elegant society balls, such as the
Ball der silbernen Rose, to costume balls like the
Traumschiff, or, for the (not only) young, party nights, for example the
Night of the Gongs ball, which is organized by Radio Gong. No matter what your taste is, you will certainly find it catered for. To avoid embarrassing scenarios, however, check the theme of the ball so that you turn up in the right attire. A list of the balls can be found in the special events section of the calendar.
