March 2003
Irish Gig
It’s that time again! Although St. Patrick’s Day is
on Monday, March 17, the 8th annual parade
is being held on Sunday, March 16. The celebration is the largest of its kind in Europe (after Dublin, of course!), so dig out your best green pullover, join the crowds and enjoy the party. The parade begins at Münchner Freiheit at 1 pm, continues along Leopoldstrasse and Ludwigstrasse and ends at Odeonsplatz. At approx. 2 pm there will be a blessing of the shamrock
and music by pipe bands. With Irish, Scottish, Bavarian and international groups and societies taking part, it will be a day for everyone, and being of Irish heritage is not a prerequisite. If you want to celebrate with a pint of Guinness after the parade, why not head for Kilians (Frauenplatz 11) or Shamrock (Trautenwolfstr. 6)? There is no excuse, not even a sore head, for not celebrating the next day, too, as it is St. Patrick’s Day! Free live music at Kilians and Shamrock will ensure a great atmosphere. Information about the parade is constantly being updated, so keep checking
