A choir competition at Gasteig promises a world of music.
The Philharmonie at the Gasteig will host this year’s Munich Choir Concert on July 4. In celebration of this event’s tenth anniversary, organizers have, for the first time, invited choirs from all over the world. Munich-based groups include: The Swedish Choir, which will present Scandinavian folk music; The French-German Choir, which will perform a medley of international songs; The Women’s Choir with a-cappella versions of Johannes Brahms’ works; and the St. Lukas Choir, featuring gospel songs from America’s deep South. Moscow’s Ssoglassije will perform traditional Russian folk songs, while England’s Choir of Queens’ College Cambridge will mark the group’s long history by covering works from the Renaissance to the present. An unusual addition to this year’s vocal extravaganza is the women’s barbershop quartet, Harmunichs. The group will showcase a selection of Broadway show tunes, pop songs and spirituals. Tickets are available at the Gasteig, tel. (089) 54 81 81 81.
