April 2003
Pleasure Found
Want to experience a real local event without the hype of the Oktoberfest? Well, starting on April 26 is the Maidult. This historic fair, held three times a year, was first documented
in 1310. Although it is located in the heart of the city, on Mariahilfplatz in the Au district, the fair has a traditional, country feel. Stalls selling inexpensive clothes, antiques, toys and crockery make for a pleasant atmosphere. Whether you visit the fair to find a bargain, stock up on plates or have a ride on the merry-go-round, you are sure to enjoy yourself. Like any good Munich celebration, there will be the usual opportunity for Bratwurst, draught beer and Lebkuchen, although the favorite here is grilled fish. The fair will be held from April 26 to May 5, and Tuesday, April 29, is children’s day. For more information visit
