Big Brass

Jazz has always been the Cinderella of musical styles in Munich. While classical, rock, pop and avant-garde music flourishes, fans of jazz music have never had more than a couple of locations to choose from. All that looks set to change now with the opening of not one but two new venues for jazz music. Prager Frühling at Ainmillerstrasse 1 (Tel. 0162 749 59 05) features jazz evenings on Sunday and Wednesday night, with live music on Wednesday from 10 pm. Those who prefer to listen to their favorite jazz tunes while tucking into a good American dinner or sipping a cocktail may like to visit Jazzy’s at Steinsdorfstrasse 21/22 (Tel. [089] 216 684 47). Each evening offers a different style—for example, Mondays and Tuesdays in-house pianist Maestro Juan plays jazz classics, Friday is blues and oldies night and Saturday is reserved for soft jazz.
