Delaying Tactics
Yes, it’s our favorite gripe: the unpunctuality of the city’s S-Bahn service. Hardly a day goes by, or so it seems, that passengers are not left stranded at one of the stations around town, and while many locals may be able to decode the fuzzy loudspeaker messages broadcast to tell passengers of alternative routes, those with a less-than-perfect grasp of German either have to ask fellow travelers to explain or just discover an alternative
form of transport themselves. Though
the MVV (Munich Transport and Tariff Association) web site does not deal with daily breakdowns, the site does warn passengers about short- and long-term changes to the train and bus timetables. Did you know, for example, that there is currently a reduced service on weekday evenings—from 9:30 pm onwards—between Pasing and the Ostbahnhof
due to the tunnel renovation work?
