Green Ritual

When most of us head out to the English Garden on a weekend afternoon, it is either to play a game of soccer, walk the dog or maybe nap under a tree. There is another option, though, albeit one that may not spring to mind immediately: taking part in a Japanese tea ceremony at the small teahouse near the Haus der Kunst. This charming little pavilion was a gift to the Bavarian State from the Japanese Urasenke Foundation on the occasion of the 1972 Olympic Games. On October 11, 12, 25 and 26, at 3 pm, 4 pm and 5 pm, visitors are invited to witness a tea ceremony. Anyone can attend and each ceremony is preceded by an introductory lecture. The cost per adult is € 4 and € 2 for children under 12. The ceremony on October 12 will be conducted by a group of young Japanese “tea lovers” from Kanazawa and promises to be a very special event.
