October 2003
Sticks and Stones
Sticks, of the petrified type, that is, will be on display alongside the fabulous shapes and color schemes of precious stones, crystals and fossils from around the world at Europe’s leading mineral show and geological trade fair. From October 31 to November 2 more than 750 exhibitors, renowned traders and collectors and curators of well-known mineral collections worldwide will participate in this 40th Mineralientage München. Important finds, precious pieces from old collections, handmade jewelry, accessories for collectors, literature, brilliant and instructive special shows as well as interesting events and presentations will draw a crowd of all ages. Experience the Gold Rush by mining in Bonanza Creek, where gold prospectors offer—not only for children—by showing visitors special techniques and giving them a gold washing pan and the opportunity to find a real gold nugget. Carve a soapstone or learn how to cut a mineral or even a pebble and see the winner of this year’s jewelry design competition. A special show during this event is
Tourmaline and Trilobites. The surprisingly colorful, in contrast to its name, Black Tourmaline, which conceals fabulous colors, the Brother Tourmaline or “rainbow gem,” and Trilobites, the 600-million-year old sea inhabitants of our planet, will be on display. Mineralientage München will be held daily from 9 am to 6 pm at the Messegelände-München-Riem.
Use the East entrance to reach halls A4, A5 and A6. For groups of 10 or more, a discount of 20 percent is available and can be arranged in advance. For more information, contact Mineralientage München, Postfach 1361, 82034 Oberhaching; Tel. (089) 61 34 711; Fax (089) 61 35 400; email:
