March 2004
Stamp of approval
If you think stamp collecting is old fashioned, think again. The International Stamp Exhibition is coming to Munich from March 4 to 6 and promises to be a fascinating event. There will be 80 shopping stalls to peruse, offering cases, catalogues and albums for sale. If you are more interested in scholarship than shopping, several interesting lectures will be held each day by experts in the field. Serious historians or philatelists will be interested to know that a rare presentation will be made on the first German stamp, “Bayern 1,” of 1849. Admission to the exhibition costs € 6 per day, and opening hours are 10 am to 6 pm on March 4 and 5 and 10 am to 4 pm on March 6. Discounts are available for members and collectors and those under 16 get in free. With the purchase of your entrance ticket you will automatically be entered in to a draw. The first prize is a collection of stamps from 1949 worth € 1,000. The event will be held at MOC Veranstatlungszentrum, München Freimann (U6 Kieferngarten). For more information go to
