Midnight Treats
There may not be enough hours in the day to explore Munich’s vast array of museums. But now you can discover them by night. On October 16 some 80 galleries, collections and museums will be opening their doors for the annual Lange Nacht der Museen, which is expected to attract some 30,000 people. For just € 15 visitors can explore as many locations as they wish, and take advantage of the free shuttle bus connections around the city. The event runs from 7 pm until 2 am, with many establishments putting on special displays and providing live music, food and drinks. As well as classic art exhibitions, there are also more unusual alternatives. How about a guided tour through the depths of Munich by the city drainage authority (prebook at
www.muenchner.de or by calling [089] 30 61 00 41)? Or perhaps a torchlight trip through the Botanical Gardens (Menzingerstrasse 65)? Get a look behind the scenes at how the impressive 3D IMAX films and laser shows are made at the Deutsches Museum. Or see ancient statues come to life at the Museum für Abgüsse Klassischer Bildwerke (Meiserstrasse 10). You could even win yourself a real moonstone, in a free draw being held at the Museum Reich der Kristalle (The World of Crystals Museum, Theresienstrasse 41).
