October 2004
Made in Holyrood
Who needs Hollywood when you can have Holyrood? In cooperation with the Münchner Stadtbibliothek and Scottish Screen, the British Council is presenting Scottish Film Today. From October 25 to 29 five films will be screened at the Gasteig, Rosenheimer Str. 5. The program was selected by Scottish Screen, an institution that develops, encourages and promotes every aspect of film, television and new media in Scotland and works to establish Scotland as a major screen production center. The films to be shown are set in industrial cities and deal with gritty topics, such as unemployment and alcohol or drug problems, but each director finds a new and individual way to explore these themes. The feature films to be shown are
Blinded, 16 Years of Alcohol, Solid Air, Afterlife and
Sweet Sixteen. Afterlife, a low-budget film directed by Alison Peebles, which has recently received a great deal of press coverage in the UK, was the 2003 winner of the Edinburgh International Film Festival Audience Award. For further information about the event see
