Bar of the Month: Rechts der Isar
Not to be confused with the neighboring hospital (or you could be in for a very different night out), Rechts der Isar is a large and airy bar/restaurant in Bogenhausen. The white walls, high ceiling and fresh flowers on each table lend an elegant touch, while the striking fish tank behind the bar gives it a modern feel. Even the corridor leading to the bathrooms is in keeping with the cool décor and features colored square tiles set into the wall and leather benches, so, ladies, at least you will have somewhere pleasant to wait if there is a line! It is fairly unusual to go to a trendy bar in Munich and receive such friendly and attentive service, but the staff here is consistently good. As a result, the atmosphere is superb. Smart without being snobby and funky without being intimidating, Rechts der Isar has a very different vibe on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, when DJs go to work on decks behind the bar and projections transform the bare walls. It can get really busy, and with the clientele dressed to impress, it looks more like a club than a bar. Music during the week is varied, unobtrusive and laid back. Rechts der Isar attracts a mixed crowd, from the older, smart Bogenhausen set, to young and funky 20-somethings. Prices are moderate, with bottles of beer starting at € 2.80, glasses of wine at € 4 and cocktails € 7. Non-smokers will be happy to know that they will not have to endure the usual stinging eyes as the high ceiling provides good ventilation. So all in all, Rechts der Isar is quite simply wunder-bar!
