November 2004
Did you know...
Mountain freaks take note! The new climbing center in Bad Tölz, which opened in September, is running a two-day event that looks at ways of improving your health and fitness, and thus your mountaineering skills. Professional nutritionists will be on hand at the event, which takes place from November 26 to 28. Tickets, which include full-board accommodation, cost from € 220 per person.
Noticed a man wandering along S-Bahn trains with a backpack full of coffee over the past few months? The new refreshment scheme, which offers drinks and snacks to passengers on lines 1, 2, 6 and 8, was launched last month and is on trial until Christmas. Will it prove successful, or are most people’s trips too short for them to bother with such niceties? Watch this space!
A word of warning for opera and theatergoers! As part of cost-cutting measures, state opera and theater tickets no longer include public transport to the event, as has been the case for the past ten years. The move is expected to save the Nationaltheater around one million euros a year. Tickets for performances at the Kammerspiele, the Volkstheater, the Kleine Komödie and Munich Philharmonic concerts are still valid on public transport.
There’s a double whammy of birthday festivities at the Augustiner Keller this month. In celebration of the establishment’s 50th birthday, Dixieland band the Munich Footwarmers, who also mark their 50th anniversary this year, will be performing on November 9. The event starts at 8 pm at the Augustiner Keller, Arnulfstrasse 52, Tel. (089) 59 43 93. Tickets cost € 10.
The Münchner Stadtmuseum now offers tours of the exhibition “Mythos Bayern” conducted in English. There will be two tours this month, on Saturday, November 11 at 11 am and on Tuesday, November 23 at 4 pm for an additional fee of € 4. And finally, congratulations to Munich’s Gaelic football team, München Colmcilles GAA, who won the European league championships last month. If you want to see their trophy, visit their Website at www.munichgaa.de.
