Putting on the Glitz
Deck the halls—it’s time to party. Christmas and New Year provide the perfect excuse to get together and celebrate. The question is, where and how? So, for anyone who’s sick of the usual bash in the staff canteen, we’ve scoured Munich for the best places to party.
Best for Location
There’s nothing like a stunning location to get a party off to a swing. Imagine pulling up at the gates of Nymphenburg Palace, being greeted by the fairy-tale King Ludwig and led along a torchlit path to a magical party paradise. At the
Schlosscafé im Palmenhaus in Nymphenburg Park this is just one of many options for those looking for a party with a difference. Whether you choose to celebrate in the café itself, or under palms in the Botanical Garden’s greenhouse, people are on hand to ensure no detail is forgotten. Specialist chefs and décor experts provide the food and look to match your theme, be it regal, oriental, exotic or Christmas magic. Various entertainers are also available, ranging from jazz bands to court jesters and angels. Nothing’s impossible, and costs range from € 60 to € 140 per person, including food, drink, entertainment and decoration. Bookings for January and February will be given a 15 percent discount.

For some literally high spirits, how about
Café Glockenspiel, where a private room overlooking Marienplatz can be booked? The view takes some beating—especially prior to Christmas, when the twinkling lights of the Christkindlmarkt below fill the sky. The room seats a maximum of 70 people, and is free to hire, as long as you achieve a minimum turnover of € 2,700. A festive
menu costs between € 34 and € 40 per person. For a more theatrical do, the café also boasts a “Baroque” room, with chandeliers and velvet drapes. This seats up to 34 people and has a minimum turnover requirement of € 1,000.

If you’re after a location with street-cred, then try the Rosenzimmer (rose room) at scene club
Eat the Rich. Decked out in rose petals, this chamber of luxury can take up to 30 people. The room can be booked free of charge and food prices are dependent on the choice of
menu, drawn up by the club’s catering team.

Best for Food
For a true gourmet treat, how about celebrating at one of Munich’s top restaurants? At
Schuhbeck’s Südtiroler Stuben, for example, a variety of private rooms can be booked for free—each with a slightly different style.
Menus cost between € 68 and € 106 per person, and the restaurant can also arrange wine and food matching events.

Best for Something Different
Want a Christmas party that your guests will remember long after Santa’s been and gone? Then head for
Café Kubitscheck, one of Munich’s only two remaining 1950s cafés. Restored to its former glory last year, the café features a cooking island, where up to eight of Munich’s culinary masters, from the likes of Eisbach, the Mandarin Oriental and Cocoon, perform live cooking shows. If you want your guests to take an active role in the proceedings, then why not book a mass cookery course? Events can be run in English for between 20 and 45 participants, and cost between € 90 and € 120 per person.
