Art Documentaries
December 8 & December 13, 7 pm:
The Haus der Kunst will present two films about the work of Gerhard Richter and a Munich art installation on Effnerplatz.
Day after DayAfter the new tunnel section beneath Effnerplatz in the Bogenhausen district was opened, the city of Munich commissioned American artist Rita McBride to install a gigantic sculpture on the traffic-calmed square. The reception of the piece was not without controversy, which inspired filmmaker Alexander Hick to interview passer-bys and residents about the "Mae West" sculpture. After the screening, McBride will discuss her piece that bears the name of a 1930s Hollywood icon with Hick.
Gerhard Richter - Painting!
In 2009, one of Germany's most renowned painters opened his workshop to Corinna Belz and her team. For a couple of weeks in spring and summer, they had the rare opportunity to follow Gerhard's creative process. The film gives a unique insight into the development of an abstract painting, which may not only interest Richter enthusiasts, but perhaps art novices interested in contemporary art making.
