backOktoberfestmuseum
Information:
Entertaining presentation of the history of Bavarian beer brewing and the origins of the Oktoberfest. However, the edifice of the museum itself is worth a visit. Constructed in 1340 the building is a well-preserved exemplar of a Bürgerhaus (burgher house) of that time. The building still bears the original façade paintings and accommodates a typical Munich Himmelsleitertreppe (Jacob’s ladder stairway)—a narrow flight of stairs visible from the first floor to the roof. Another significant feature is the foundation brickwork, which goes back to Roman times.
